The Saffiano pattern was first patented by Mario Prada, the founder of the Prada brand, in 1913. It was initially used on luxury handbags and leather goods. Currently, the patent expired in 1933 (approximately 2476 BE), allowing other brands and material manufacturers worldwide to legally produce the Saffiano pattern.
